I was unfamiliar with area as going to a family funeral and live out of state. I stay at Hampton Inns frequently and was glad to see that there was one so close to the funeral home. I had a bad experience with reservations as it was a lot more than listed on the site. I was in a bind though and had to be there for funeral so I just figured it was expensive rates because it was New Jersey… although not beach season. The people on reservations also pressured me by saying it was the last two rooms available. So I booked. Come to find out, it was a 3rd party reservation, not Hampton Inn people at all. But how was I to know. I put in the number in the Hampton in site on line. They charged me 400 plus dollars extra than they should have by my calculation. Taxes and fees. This was not a special room and the Inn had not been renovated in years. It was not anywhere near full either. Other local family had gotten a reservation after me and much cheaper. Personnel were helpful when I inquired but they felt they had no power. Then I contacted “support” and they said they would review it. They later texted me to say I would get a 20% refund with no explanation. Less than I should have received but happy to get something. It finally cleared today. At no time did I know that this was a 3rd party. It is clearly a scam and Hampton Inn must be aware. I am a long time Hilton Honors member and I felt so used. Hampton should not use these sites. People should always book directly with the hotel you wish to stay at. I won’t make that mistake again. Disappointed in Hampton Inn.
