Property Description

The Abbey Hotel is fully independently owned by the Taylors, who purchased the property in 2012, and in since then they have totally transformed the property. As experienced hoteliers, Christa and Ian previously owned award-winning properties Cotswold House Hotel and The Noel Arms Hotel both in Chipping Campden.Despite being small enough to walk around, Bath is one of the world’s best-loved – and most visited – cities. From the Romans to Jane Austen, its history is remarkable, as is its spectacular Georgian architecture and is now a Unesco World Heritage site, the only city in the UK to carry this title. The Abbey Hotel is a prime example of the Georgian architecture, sitting in the very centre of Bath, encompassing three houses in North Parade overlooking Parade gardens and just catching a glimpse of Bath Abbey. The three houses formed the west end of John Wood’s North Parade, in constructing, the ground level was raised dramatically to lift the parades above the flood plain and provide a view over the river.Like many houses in North Parade, numbers 1 – 3 were lodging houses in the Georgian period becoming The Fernley Temperance hotel by 1890. The Fernley Hotel was requisitioned by the Admiralty as offices during World War II, when it was returned to its owners after the war it was refurbished and opened again as the largest hotel in Bath.It has since then operated as a hotel welcoming guests from all over the world. The Hotel is part of the history of the city and takes great pride in its location and prominence in Bath life over the years
